Aakaar is not a conventional fest. Aakaar, the way we envision it, is a forum. Aakaar is your Soap box where you can speak your mind and be heard. Where your ideas would find ears. Where your theories would find plausibility, your machines the fire test and you the torchlight out of the darkness of indifference and oblivion. Semantics aside, Aakaar stands for these very formless ideas, and strives to be a platform where you can build solid foundations for the same. And chisel them to life.

We, at the Civil Engineering Association(CEA), the student association of IIT Bombay, have endeavoured to break out of the mould and do something different here. Ensuring that things would go off impeccably would be a target. We hope to stay true to the vision behind this effort of ours – celebrating our to-be profession, its spirit and imbibing its message..

Information Technology is the major driving component of knowledge revolution which has brought a sea change in the profile of management of university administration. However, the expansion has not been uniform throughout. Patches of excellence in ICT in the area of administration and examinations need to be enlarged in the emerging context both quantitatively and qualitatively which could facilitate the working process. University human resource management needs to be automated that could provide elements to simplify, improve and expedite the organization of their activities. Exchange of information, management of administrative records, handling of numerical data, meetings, planning and organization of work schedule now require latest technological support for their effective implementation. Examination being one of the key functions of university system also needs urgent attention for its effective functioning through latest tools in general and in the areas of paper setting, scrutiny, development of database for question banks, panel of examiners, evaluation of answer sheets, announcement of result etc, in particular. All these aspects which are the sin qua non for augmenting e-governance, however, are still in a nascent stage. The higher education institutions have to attach utmost priority to this aspect, since the longer are delays, the larger the gap and the harder it will be to catch up.

The present workshop is an endeavour to apprise the administrators of the higher educational institutions about the latest technologies as well as to provide them, a platform to exchange ideas, deliberate upon issues related to use of ICT in the management of university administration.
